Fannin South

(7:54 P.M. – 8:04 P.M. US Central Time/Monday/Downtown library)

[imood mood at time of entry: sore]

Fannin South is the end (or start, depending on which way you are headed) destination of Houston’s MetroRail train. I rode up and down the line Sunday (January 4, 2004) with the family. It was fun as all get out. Mom suggested it Saturday night (January 3, 2004). She asked if we wanted to ride the train since Sunday was going to be the last free day that Metro was offering to allow Houstonians the chance to try out the new line.

I particularly glad that we got there early because around 11 A.M. or so the train started getting packed. There was also an extremely long line at the Fannin South end of the rail.

I personally, have never been a supporter of MetroRail since it was intially forced on the city without the voters having a say about the matter one way or the other. Then after the got danged thing was already built, Metro decided to ask the voters if they could build some more of it.

It’s a pretty smooth ride over all. The train talks to you and has tons of screens to let you know where you are. You pay the fare just like a regular train only you buy your pass on the platform. Officers will do random checks on the train to make sure that the fare was paid.

I don’t see myself ever riding the train again anytime soon since I don’t usually go anywhere that the train is headed. I might go for a fun ride one day down the line, but I doubt it. Who knows?

I will go get some links to MetroRail stuff, post them, and I will go find somewhere to sit down because I am sick.
