On the Evils of Time Wasting

(7:04 P.M. – 8:29 P.M. (total writing time for both entries) US Central Time/Monday/Library)

[imood mood at time of entry: tired] — I always seem to be tired lately

So I have been lax with the updates, since I’ve been working, bought Season Three of Stargate Atlantis and wanted to play with my new toy, and sprain my ankle at work. I went to the hospital and got all checked out.

I don’t think that it’s anything more than a sprain, but I was given referrals just in case I needed an MRI and the whole nine (x-rays, Vicodin, Motrin, an air/gel-filled brace, cooing by the staff, my own room, etc) regardless. Part of that (the room) was probably due to the fact that my job was picking up the tab. If it had just been the regular, old, uninsured me, I would have been out in the multi-rooms that were separated from hallway traffic by a thin curtain. (The horror!)

I’m feeling better now, but I can still feel a bit of pulling in my ankle, especially when I try to walk too fast. I did spend two whole days at home and limped around the house to get ice, food, and to go to the bathroom. It did help that I had S3 and Kingdom Hearts, but I was bored to be in one place for so long with no Internet. Meh.

I still need to do various things online like my Neopets dailies, look up some concert info and an old actor. I mostly just want to mindlessly tool around. Tomorrow (Tuesday, September 25, 2007) I go back to work and it’ll be Boredomville once more. I’ve moved through severely hating my job to being bored by it all of the time now. Before, I went back and forth, but now I find it to be just boring through and through. It’s a paycheck and I get to listen to music, but most days I would kill for a little peace and quiet, and a nice, cushy desk job somewhere that I could surf the Internet while pretending to look busy.

I still need to get around to my icon transfers and what have you over on InsaneJournal, but I haven’t thought much about them with work and all. I’ll get to them, eventually.

Oh! I didn’t get a chance to come by and post, but I think that I am going to really try my hand at Nano this year. I’d always thought about it in previous years when my friends list could post of nothing else. (After all, it is the sort of thing that can consume a person’s life.) I actually signed up last year, but I ran out of time because I was working all of the time and didn’t really have it in me to give it an honest effort. I sort of wrote out a couple of story lines, but I didn’t do anything with them. In fact, I think that I lost them, because I haven’t seen them since.

Seeing as how I’ve been writing poetry lately (Back to those high school roots! Yes!) and I had been thinking of writing a book of poetry, I might focus on that. Now who’d want to read a possible 50,000 word book of poetry, I don’t know, but there it is. I am also thinking about my journal entries. I’ve thought of turning my various journals into a book, because I’ve seen some ‘interesting’ things from time to time. There is also the possibility of a sort of hybrid book that would be nonfiction with cues taken from my real life. *shrugs*

Who knows what I’ll end up with? I just want to have a go at it this year. Although I still have my mostly empty account, I carry the knowledge that I most likely won’t be considered a “winner” this year. There’s no way that I can write that much and have it make sense. Sure I could write bunch of nonsense, but I’m sure that’s not the point of the activity. I’m just not that prolific. I doubt that I’ve ever written that much fan fiction in all of the years I’ve been writing it. Maybe, but it’s doubtful. Now original fiction and journal entries, that’s another thing. I’ve probably done 50K several times over.

Speaking of which, I’ve been getting back into the idea of original fiction lately. I have book/story/book series ideas lined out. I mean entire ideas that it could take me years to write, but look promising to tackle. Both of the possible book/book series ideas are fantasy based. One came from a vivid dream I had and the other from the sound I always hear. It could be something. I certainly hope that it pans out, because I need a real writer’s gig. It’ll give me something structured and productive to do, not that seating tables, cleaning up, and doing god knows what else I’ll be needed to to do isn’t “productive.” Pfft.

I also went in to the government assistance office today. We finally reached our appointment that we received about three weeks ago. We were approved, but no money was placed on our card, because I didn’t have my bank statement with me. I don’t know why they need that, but maybe they want to moniter my income. Who knows? It’s the government. I just hope that something comes through, because it’ll save me a bundle on groceries.

On that same note, it looks like one of my high school friends, Andrea, might be willing to go to Austin with me to attend a concert. They (Gym Claqss Heroes, Fally Out Boy, Plain White T’s, and Cute Is What We Aim For) aren’t coming here, but they will be in Austin! If everything works out, I’ll only have to pay for my ticket, gas, and food.

Before, it looked like I wasn’t going to make it, since I would have needed to save up a minimum of $150. Normally on a busy month, I wouldn’t have a problem, but I’ve missed so many work shifts due to illness, appointments, and sprained ankles that I haven’t exactly been raking it in. Not that I normally rake it in. There’s also the fact that our shifts are a lot short, again due to the slowness of business. It just would have been more money headed my way if I have been able to work a larger amount of longer hours.

All right, I’ve spent way too much too much time writing this entry, filling out those quizzes, and creating a poll over on InsaneJournal. After I finish up here, I am going to head home and collect what I am hoping is my eBayed copy of “Order of the Phoenix.” I never received that page I was promised and I couldn’t find the book here for cheap. Granted, I didn’t have the time and resources to go out and truly find one, but I couldn’t get my hands on a copy. So I bought one for $2.20 plus $4 for shipping on eBay. I’ve got a copy of “Prisoner of Azkaban” coming that only cost me $0.99! Shipping was $4.50, so it all balances out.

I hope that you’re all doing well.

Danielle

Change-a-roo: The quizzes were moved here, because I couldn’t locate their coding error in their first posting over on InsaneJournal. I decied to save myself the hassle here and put them at the bottom right off.

Evils?! Pfft! Cue the quizzes!

  1. Being a consumer of government services (heating assistance and the state healthcare) and worker with them… they need the bank statement to make sure you do not have any unclaimed cash on hand. Like working for cash jobs and crying poor. You know?

It’s invasive. I’ve been invaded more than usual this year which led to an impressive pissing match I won this week. lol

    Elevate and ice that ankle.
