Welcoming Rock To The Land of Hades

(3:02 P.M. – 3:25 P.M. US Central Time/Wednesday/library near Downtown)

[imood mood at time entry: pissed]

We’ve all heard the saying, “Rock is dead.” In fact, it is/was a favorite saying of Marilyn Manson. Heck! He even had himself a tour and titled it as such. I blew off Mr. Manson’s (*cough cough*) claims off then and there. There was plenty of good rock music of all varieties to be had by all who knew where to look for it. Sadly, Marilyn is now quite correct in his statement.

Yet another wonderful station has fallen to a Spanish format. Their motto is “Latino, and Proud.” What I’d like to know is what exactly they are proud of. Snatching one of the few completely rock stations off the air, when there are dozens of Spanish stations already in existance here? That’s nothing to be pround of my opinion.

I don’t think the death of one of my favorite stations would be so bad if Clear Channel, aka The Devil, had not screwed my alternative rock station before they changed Rock 101’s (KLOL) format. They fired the morning show, Steve and Jeff and The Morning Buzz, which was most likely wholly vindictive on their part. Once the morning show was gone, all the other jocks became targets. Clear Channel has fired every single jocks, only to replace them with snotty idiots I would not allow to lick my brother’s spit off of the ground. (Yes, I know that’s gross.). It’s utterly ridiculous!

Clear Channel is accustomed to having their say, and when all of the loyal Buzz listeners, including myself, banned together and flooded the site with our disapproval of their intention to yank our station completely (About a year ago.), we must have set off a troublemakers’ beacon that apparently did not go unnoticed. *sigh* So now they have gutted our station, and we have digusting people like “Rod Ryan” (*insert sickness here*) forced onto our percious air waves. They made certain to shut down the website this time when they decimated The Buzz. They even changed the name from Houston’s Alternative, to Houston’s New Rock. Bleh.

We also have to suffer through the likes of Metallica. I know that some people still love Metallica, but after the whole Napster killing rampage, I could not find it in my heart to mindlessly bob along to any of their ‘hits’ anymore. And yes, I went to the free Napster tour. Good show.

So now we are down to two rock only stations. I am sure that Clear Channel will do everything in their sadistic power to ruin what is left for those of us who don’t want to listen to Spanish music all the time. If I could, I would bring Clear Channel down. They are simply too evil, and too damned big in the bretches for their own good. They won’t last long. Someone will take them out, eventually. I suppose the questions will then become whether we like whatever new radio superpower emerges, and how much of a tyrant will they be. Hopefully, a lot, and not very much.

  1. Our rock station locally was purchased by clear channel I believe and one morning I woke up not knowning it and David Bowie was playing and it was awful. They fired all the DJ’s except like 2 and most of their programming is prerecorded shit.

However, in the last few years another station has emerged playing rock, often times forgetting to censor the songs, with local DJ’s again. They make huge fun of the old station and are pulling in way more fans than the old does anymore.

I don’t mind old Metallica. I don’t like much past the black album though. I never kept up the napster thing. I was never a fan of downloading music. Even on a fixed income I’m still not a fan of it. Usually I’ll buy the CD if I really want it. But now a days they keep spinning music so much on the radio that I rarely want to buy stuff because I get burnt out on it.
