The Blame Game Never Goes Out of Style

[imood mood at time of entry: annoyed]

I meant to write about this yesterday, but I didn’t have the time. I never do. I had to get to work early for a shift that I picked up. More about that in a bit.

Now what I am peeved off about is this//this (The first link opens a pop up video of a news report. You will need to disable pop up blockers to watch it. The second leads to a news article that has pop ups on the page, so you might want to put your blockers back on.) The video doesn’t mention it outright, but you can hear the police officers basically hinting at what was going to happen. However, the article states it in print.

You see, the man in handcuffs stole a car and led police on a chase across Phoenix. I am the first person to say what he actually did was wrong. There aren’t any two ways about it, but blaming and attempting to charge this man with the deaths of those involved in the helicopter crash is crazy.

There is a recording of a warning going out that the helicopters were too close to one another. In times when you are in a high risk situation, it is part of your job to be aware of your surroundings. If you don’t do that, then something like this is bound to happen. So how in the holy hell are the police going to justify blaming this man for an accident when he wasn’t directly the cause of this accident.

He wasn’t the one who told the pilots not to pay attention to where they were flying. He didn’t tell them to run into one another. No, he just stole a car and had his issues with the police. Many people are involved in police chases every year that are covered by helicopters that don’t burst into flames.

So why now that these two pilots failed to do their jobs properly by watching where they were going and ended up killing one another and their cameramen is this one particular thief being threatened with four counts of murder? You know why I think he’s taking the fall? You can’t charge dead men with negligence. The police now have four affected families on their hands that they are going to have to satisfy the baseless cries for “justice.” They should be focusing on the fact that these pilots are, in the plainest terms, the ones who are really responsible.

They are the ones that screwed up and caused this, not the guy who was miles away from them trying to make a break for it. I don’t think nearly enough people realize or are willing to admit this. All that they see is a criminal that is guilty of one thing, so it’ll be just dandy to lump on another. Personally, I am hoping that nothing can be proven to bring these charges against him. But where the car theft and everything else is concerned, we all saw him do those things and there really can’t be anything for it.

I have to say, as cold-hearted as some would say this makes me seem, I can’t say that I really feel all that bad about the deaths of these men. If this was simply a tragic accident that we could all learn from and not yet another example of the police gleefully forcing charges where they didn’t belong, I would probably feel differently. I really would. But this is another excellent point in the argument that police officers are never to be trusted. They will simply screw you over time after time.

*huffs*

Anyway, back to that shift. We have a couple of new guys in my department at work and they’re still fresh out of training. I told one of them, Josh, that I would cover his weekend shifts so that he could go do whatever it is with his band. I formerly had Sunday (July 29, 2007) free and planned to go see Saliva for only ten bucks. Well, when I signed on to take his shift, I completely forgot about my prior plans to go see a band that I have liked since I was in high school. Needless to say, I regretted it on many, many levels.

On the up side, I did get to meet a couple of the guys, even though I didn’t really recognize them or truly look at them, since I was trying to control an entire crowd at the moment when they walked up to me. Heh. Well, they let me know who they were and I got them in right away, because, hell, they’re frickin’ Saliva and the headliners of the event. I didn’t get an autograph, but I did get Dave Novotny’s (bass) sunglasses that he left behind. I did end up getting to see them perform for a few minutes a couple of times as we were closing down for the night.

I couldn’t stay in the concert for very long, because I wasn’t supposed to be there, even though I had a wristband that one of the other bands had given to me. I wasn’t the only one that went over for quick peeks. There were at least six others, if not more. It was fun and could have gotten me into trouble, but I have loved their music for ages now. Thatwas the first time that I ever peeked into a show, even though I have watched other do it for months now.

I am also quite pleased about the lovely reviews I got in my Inbox. Someone wrote in and told me how much they enjoyed a story that I wrote. Another person wrote in and told me how much they enjoyed the Star Wars postcards I used to do. I really want to do more of both. I miss them. Maybe I will get around to it some day. *crosses fingers*

Well, I need to give this at least a little check through, finish up online and then head in. I hope that all of you are doing well.
